Buffalo AKG Museum

The Buffalo AKG Art Museum extension serves not only as an expansion of the complex to accommodate the museum’s growing art collection, but also to reconnect it to the park and city and establish a new openness to public activities.

StudioSZ was engaged to provide both exterior and interior architectural photography of the museum, with a particular emphasis on showcasing the building’s lighting at dusk.

  • One of our primary goals with the Buffalo AGK Art Museum shoot was to balance the need to showcase the new gallery extension while at the same time explaining how this additional fits into the existing ensemble of cultural buildings.  We chose to subtly hint at highlighting the existing historic buildings while making sure to keep the new building front and center.

  • The museum employs a significant amount of glass on the facade and looks incredible at night.  One of the major challenges was to carefully plan the shoot so that we could photograph the most important views during twilight.

  • A day and a half on site gave us enough time to showcase the very best of OMA’s new gallery addition at Buffalo AGK.  Two evening twilight sessions allowed us to capture the project at dusk from both the interior and the exterior which is when this project truly shines.
